....look ahead, that is where your future lies." -Ann Landers
Another year has come and gone, and here it is now, as I write this, New Year's Eve of the year 2011. I can't say too much has changed one way or another this year, at least with my own personal self. Completed another 2 semesters of school with mildly above average grades, turned 21, had a job for a short while, made some new friends.... But for the most part, I feel that I have remained largely unchanged. I won't say I wish to rectify this, as that would imply being discontent with the proceedings of this past year of life. Instead, I will simply state that in the upcoming year, I wish to become different. Not drastically so, by any means, but I truly hope that I will be able to accomplish something this year, something beyond the simple tasks of day-to-day life and semester-to-semester college. Whether that something is small, such as gaining more skill at drawing or becoming better at Japanese, or something more easily recognizable on a broad scale of success, such as starting to write a book, I want to do something that will have more of an impact both on myself and the world around me. Most of all, I want to learn. I want to become more knowledgeable about all things: language, culture, art, history, science, everything.... and with this knowledge, I hope to become a better person worthy of being presented to the rest of the world.

Alright, school is about to start up again, which I think means it's a good time to diet. I'll be on a more regular sleeping schedule, and walking around all over campus, so this seems like an opportune time to try and lose weight.
I've tried dieting before, usually just by eating less, but this time I'm actually going to restrict myself to a few very specific foods. I guess I'll just try this by mentioning foods from the bottom of the pyramid and going up.
Grains:
I was originally only going to go with oatmeal, but after some internal debate, I realized that that kind of limited my dinner choices, and also considering that grains constitute the biggest portion of the food pyramid, I think I'm also going to add barley into the mix. I've had barley in soups before, and despite almost never eating it, it really is a grain I really like, and it supposedly has crap-tons of health benefits. So, this means no rice, no pasta, no cereals (including cream of wheat, grits, and malt-o-meal), no crackers or chips or cookies or BREADS of any sort. Going without bread will be the hardest part, as I really could take the other things I'll allow myself to eat and make a really nice sandwich out of them, but.... sacrifices must be made.
Proteins:
So, chicken breast and canned tuna are my staples here. This will be another difficult one, as this means NO other fish, no pork, no beef (criiiiiiieeeeeeees), and no other slightly more exotic meats such as lamb, turkey, shrimps, etc. This also means no meat broths, even if it is chicken, as there's too many additives and salts and things in those. Tonight, I've also decided that eggs will be allowed, but only either hard-boiled or scrambled. Considering I'm not a big fan of scrambled eggs, this will probably mean mostly hard-boiled. Delicious, yolky centers with a little bit of salt and pepper are a ridiculous guilty pleasure of mine, and I also just thought of a light sort of egg salad I really want to try (hard-boiled eggs, lettuce, celery, salt, pepper, olive oil), although it will be slightly sad without any bread or crackers to eat it on. :( Maybe I can start trying to find a good way to wrap things in lettuce. Finally, protein powder for breakfasts and such is allowed, and beans and nuts are.... not allowed. ;;
Dairy:
Practically no dairy. D: Milk is allowed, and that's it. No cream or half and half, no yogurt, no cheese (saaaaaaad).... No other dairy products that I can't even think of at the moment. :P
Fruits and vegetables:
Lumping these together because ALL raw fruits and vegetables are fair game. I'm gonna try to lean more towards vegetables, though, as fruits have many sugars in them. I'm also stuck in a dilemma on this one, as I can't decide whether or not I should be allowed to cook these. I can think of some awesome sounding recipes (grilled chicken breast with baked apples, barley/veggie/chicken stuffed bell peppers), but I'm just not sure. I'll probably try to start off all raw and end up caving in partway through, but oh well.... I'll just try to keep to cooked stuff exclusively for dinner, and maybe if I bring leftovers for lunch to school.
Other:
I'm also allowing myself to eat these Chinese meal packet things I bought at the Asian market awhile ago. They actually are pretty good in oatmeal, so that should make for some healthy, quick breakfasts. As far as beverages goes, I'm allowing milk, as mentioned, water, and tea. No coffee, no cocoa, no soda, no cider, no alcohol, no juice.... Sad again. :(
So, there you have it, my plan. I'm going to strictly begin this on the first day of school, and continue until October starts. Coffee hours are going to be sad for awhile, as they always offer delicious drinks and crackers and cheeses. D: But, once October 1st hits, I'll be able to feast on meats and breads again. >:3 I would've totally made an awesome viking~

I will in no way say that I "know" another foreign language, and I won't be prepared to make such a claim for at least another several years. However, I have taken both Japanese and Mandarin Chinese for 2 years, will begin studying Italian in about a month, and have been self-studying Korean off and on for a little over 2 years now. I love learning languages. :)

So I was looking for a picture of SS501's 김현준 or someone with a computer to put up for this post, but I completely failed at finding acceptable pictures of ANY Korean stars I like with their computers, so this picture is here instead. It's still computer related. :3
I hate CSS. It's awful. I used HTML like a decade ago and it was SO much easier to figure out and apply to webpages. I spent several hours last night trying to customize my livejournal, and just kept failing, so.... CSS is terrible.
Tomorrow is the last day of break before we have to go back to school. :( It'll be cool to get to see all my friends more often again, and in particular I'm really excited to try and make friends with all the new Korean students we're getting. Let's hope they're not flaky and actually want to hang out with me for once. :P However, I'm also gonna have toooooons of homework (especially for CH 203), and I'll be working, so that'll cut out of my friend time, aaaaaaaand I still need to learn how to drive. This semester is gonna be hella busy.
In small but happy news, my stuff from YesStyle has supposedly shipped out by now. :3 Hoodie and arm warmers, come to me~
Tomorrow I guess I'll try and figure out CSS a bit more, cuz I really do wanna and make this thing look good.

This is ridiculous. I've had pink eye in both eyes, then the left, now the right, for about the past 2 weeks straight. I'm so diseased. :( I'm finally over my cold, but having pink eye for so long is just ridiculous. I sleep on comforters and a stuffed animal, all things you're not supposed to throw in the washing machine, but I think I'm gonna try anyway. Comforters, Tiggy, pillow case, towels, Yoochun (my laptop), phone, and like everything else need to be washed/disinfected sometime soon. I was planning on trying to wash all my bedding when my left eye was better, aaaaaand then that plan failed greatly.
